You are invited to join us for a ‘Breeding the herd for your farming future’ workshop, hosted by LIC’s Bull Acquisition team.
By participating in this workshop, you will be having a direct influence on LIC’s breeding scheme, with an opportunity to share your thoughts on what your farming operations and systems will look like over the next 10-15 years.
About the workshop
Workshops will run from 10am through till 2pm.
This workshop is designed to help inform the future breeding goals for livestock selection and ensure these reflect the national breeding objective of New Zealand dairy farmers. As a participant in this workshop you will have the opportunity to provide your thoughts and opinions on what your farm system and operation will look like in the future, and the herd required to farm it. The insight you provide in this workshop will be used to influence LIC’s breeding scheme in the coming years.
When thinking about your future system and herd, we will be looking to focus on four key areas:
- Farm goals
- Profitability
- Sustainability
- Genetics
The workshop will also include the following presentations from LIC’s R&D and Livestock Selection teams.
A look back on science’s influence on our breeding scheme
Our Research and Development Team, will take a look back over the last 30 years and the changes we have made through science over that time. They will also touch on some of the current genetic projects LIC are working on.
Breeding New Zealand's national dairy herd - the history and influence of livestock selection.
Our Livestock selection Team, will delve into the history of Livestock Selection index and the influence it has had on LIC’s breeding scheme. They will also discuss the use of genomics and trends of traits of interest over time and where we are now.
