My name is Keeva Hintz.
I recently completed my fourth year of studying for a Bachelor of Agriculture Science with Honours at Lincoln University.
Growing up on a dairy farm in Taranaki fostered a deep appreciation for the agriculture sector and motivated me to pursue a career in this field. Throughout my studies, I gained valuable practical experience through internships and various roles across diverse farming systems, further deepening my passion for agriculture.
My academic journey reflects my commitment to understanding and addressing the complexities of the agricultural industry, with a focus on contributing solutions that promote sustainability.
I had the opportunity to work on a research project on the integration of plantain into dairy farming systems. This project aimed to investigate plantain as a strategy to reduce nitrate leaching while evaluating its effects on farm productivity. Utilising modelling tools such as Farmax and Overseer, I assessed the economic and environmental outcomes of various treatments.
Looking ahead, my career goals involve making a meaningful impact in the agricultural industry, where I can drive positive change. I plan to achieve these goals by leveraging my education, research experience, and practical knowledge to develop innovative solutions for the sector.
Receiving the Brian Aspin Memorial Scholarship significantly impacted my studies and personal life by alleviating some financial burdens associated with my education, allowing me to concentrate on my academic pursuits. For students considering applying for scholarships, I strongly encourage you to take that step. Your network is your net worth, and putting your name out there can open doors to numerous opportunities.
