I am a Master’s student from Canterbury.

In 2022, I moved to Palmerston North to study Animal Science at Massey University, where I recently completed a Bachelor of Animal Science, majoring in Genetics and Breeding. During my undergraduate studies, I developed a strong interest in genetics, which led me to pursue a Master of Science in Animal Science, specialising in quantitative genetics. Through my Master’s, I aim to develop skills that will build a foundation for a career in animal genetics.

After completing my Master’s coursework at Massey University this semester, I plan to undertake the research component at the Al Rae Centre in Hamilton. My project will be part of a broader study investigating the dominance effects of SNPs on milk traits in dairy cattle, with the goal of improving understanding of how these genetic interactions influence production traits.

Receiving the Pat Shannon Scholarship has had a significant impact on my studies, allowing me to fully focus on my coursework and research without the added pressure of financial constraints. With this support, I hope to continue a career in research and quantitative genetics and make meaningful contributions to the field.
