I am a master’s student from Wellington whose academic interests include biology, mathematics/statistics, animal welfare and healthcare.
I graduated from the University of Otago in 2023 with a Bachelor of Science (majoring in genetics and minoring in statistics).
I'm now undertaking a Master of Science at Massey University (focusing on animal genetics and bioinformatics). For my project, I’m aiming to characterise the genetic variation of NZ working farm dogs to improve their health and welfare, hopefully improving the overall efficiency of farming in NZ.
I heard about the Pat Shannon scholarship through my 2023/2024 summer internship at LIC, where I had the privilege of working on a real research project for the first time and fell in love with the field. Receiving the scholarship in early 2024 has allowed me to pursue my passion for research by helping to fund my studies.
After my masters, I’m hoping to carry out a PhD and eventually work in genetics research. My ultimate goal is to help cure genetic diseases by discovering pathogenic variants and developing treatments for humans and animals.
